fear not!

December 19, 2006 · Leave a Comment

If you are feeling strange or uneasy at all right now, fear not. You are merely a little more sensitive than the average person to the shifting of the planets within our solar system. It’s is only temporary and I promise you that it won’t last long. The shifting will be complete by tomorrow.
Tune in tomorrow….

people get ready

November 6, 2006 · 1 Comment

In four days it is coming…
Something as freakishly rare, exciting and (potentially) as scary as the planets lining up will be taking place here under the Big Top.
What will happen?
What will become of us all?
Stay tuned…

100th weekend assignment

February 24, 2006 · 1 Comment

John Scalzi writes:
Well, here we are: The 100th Weekend Assignment! It’s hard to believe we’ve done so many of these and we’re still going strong. To celebrate the 100th Weekend Assignment… try your hand at predicting. So, here it is, your Centennial Weekend Assignment:Weekend Assignment #100: Share 10 facts about yourself — from the next five years. Imagine what you see happening over the next half decade and then tell us about it, in interesting fact form. You can be serious, or silly, or somewhere inbetween. But give it some real thought and then take a stab at your future facts. If you find 10 facts too much, just do five. Either way it’ll be fun.

From now until 2010 is the last part of the forties for me. Permit me, if you will, to jump on the bandwagon…all you 20 something folks whining about turning 30 or you 30 somethings trying to pretend you are 20 something or imagining your life is over after 40 just don’t get it. Forty has indeed been FABULOUS! I am truly at my very best. Why in the world would I want to waste my time looking backward and wishing for what is done. The next five years promise even better for me with the promise of more of the same come the next decade.
So let’s look ahead shall we?

  1. Spring 2007 I see my first baby bird successfully fly from the nest. I knew it would be hard but who knew I would be so stressed, teary and full of worry even though I knew deep down inside that she was finally ready.
  2. The summer of 2007 I finally get that tattoo I put on hold when I first offered to donate part of my liver to my brother in 2004. It was the right time. It is the most amazing…well, it is rather personal so maybe I won’t talk about it for now. I’ll save it for another day and another blog entry. But trust me, it looks HOT!
  3. The spring of 2008 proves to be a rather controversial time under the Big Top because due to the busy lives we have raising the rest of the circus act, we “buy” a car for Zoë to drive. But hey, it wouldn’t be a circus if we didn’t have a little drama, wouldn’t it? She’ll be sharing it with Abby soon enough. I’m just thankful that it is one of those new, ultra safe models that is encased in bubble wrap.
  4. I continue my great driver’s license photo streak in 2008 with my new national ID card that we all must have come 2008 if we want to travel by air. Unfortunately, my employment photo ID as usual leaves A LOT to be desired…at least my eyes aren’t crossed this time!
  5. The spring of 2009, the planets are aligned again and the Big Top has, once again, THREE teenagers in the house. The last time we saw this phenomena was for one month in 2006. It will last much longer this time as Zoë is 17, Abby is 15 and Jodie is now 13. Bill and Daniel have a clubhouse they built in the backyard for those, er, hormonal times….and y’all thought the red tent was for the women in ancient times! No sir, the women sent the men to the tent!
  6. The fall of 2009, I hang my shingle as a Childbirth educator/doula and begin receiving referrals including many of Holly’s friends. That is so surreal!
  7. Speaking of surreal….fall of 2009 I am officially a mother in law. What I love the most about the boy besides the fact he is the love of my first born’s life is the fact that he was her first love, her fist kiss….and he has a fabulous family that we have loved for years too. What can I say, it is a God-thing!
  8. Spring 2010, after a phenomenal senior year complete with her acceptance to Berkeley, Stanford and Davis, Zoë is ready to lead her class in accepting their high school diplomas….I always knew this girl was presidential material! In the meantime, no slouch herself in the brainiac department, Jodie is also graduating at the top of her 8th grade class.
  9. At last we get to see the family castle ruins in the English town named for one of our ancestors. We had planned to come here for our 20th wedding anniversary but instead we were distracted by Daniel’s adoption and the building of our dream home. Seven years later, in the summer of 2010, we are correct, it is still there as if it was always waiting for us.
  10. I finally write that book all about my adventures in juggling. All those years blogging I have honed my skills from the boring drivel of the first couple years to a book worthy of Erma Bombeck herself. It sells well, although I will never be the caliber of best selling author, Mr Scalzi. But I do get to make the talk show circuit. Anyone want my autograph now?

Extra Credit: So, who’s president in 2011?

Hmmmm..this guy.
Did I vote for him? I don’t have to tell you who I voted for!

So give John some love and play along here Weekend Assignment #100: Facts From the Future!

weekend assignment

April 22, 2005 · Leave a Comment

Well, here it is: The Earth. As planets go, it’s unique — the only planet (for now, at least) on which we find that phenomenon called “life.” Here on the eve of Earth Day, I thought it would be interesting to gather your thoughts on our home. And so:
Weekend Assignment #56: What will the Earth be like 50 years from now? Will global warming have swamped Florida? Will we switch to new energy sources? Will the people of the world be more prosperous, or will they be mired in a world of trouble. Look forward and predict what our children — and their children — will have to look forward to in 2055.
First of all, I intend to still be here. Longevity well into the nineties is something that is noted in my family….must be that thin, scandanavian blood, who knows? I intend to be loving life in my nineties just like my great grandparents did.
There will be, I imagine a definite change in the geography due to global warming and other geological upheavals directly and indirectly related to our mass consumption.
Translation:
Daniel will be teaching his grandkids fishing right off the ocean front property here in Central Cali.
Holly will be lecturing her grandkids about the dangers of tanning;
Zoe will be teaching hers how to body surf,
Abigael will be solving yet another ecological crime as the top CSI tech in the country,
Jodie will teaching a class about the way the United States “used to” look on a map.

I see us evolved into a society that no longer has the throw away mentality….we won’t be upgrading computers, cell phones, appliances and other consumer goods every few years anymore as we will be living with the results of such a mentality from my own generation. Conversely we will actually have manufactured goods that are built to last like they were in my grandparents’ day
Extra Credit: Name one thing from today that people will be nostalgic for in 2055
before I read what John wrote, the first thing that popped into my mind was iPods. GMTA?!….I wish!….I do hope at least this week John will mention my assignment along with all the others. I tried not to be offensive .
