As Hazel grows, I am amused with how she imitates her mama, her grandparents. She flatters us. Her latest imitation?

“What? You think I should change my baby’s diaper?”

Over at ModMoms Club today I am talking (in a round-about way) the idea of who should be the one to change the diapers and all the other child-rearing activities that come with it. Oh, and a little bit about Jon Gosselin because he needs to stay in the public eye even if he protests that he didn’t sign on for that.

otter pops are love

Mmmm….otter pops! Yummy, frozen, colorful, high fructose corn syrup goodness! It’s a perfectly delicious treat on a hot, muggy summer’s day. In moderation of course.

Unless you are fortunate enough to live in a household with seven big people who are all easily overcome by your cute, blue-eyed, chubby, toddler wiles. There’s always the chance that they might have communicated that you have already enjoyed a yummy otter pop…or two…or three…or…well, remember, there are seven other people living here in this house.

Otter pops are truly love.

Until you have to deal with four or five complete clothing changes due to, um, diaper leakage. That is not good…not good at all.

I take it back. Otter pops (and high fructose corn syrup) are the devil!

I am not a particularly crafty kind of person…okay, I have put together only 70 and counting photo scrapbooks…but when I was checking out these diaper cakes something told me that I could do this too.

It’s a little more personal for Holly and baby as it is decorated with toys from her baby registry including this bear and these cd’s.

If you look closely in the background, you will see that (a) the kitchen did not burn down and (b) the tile and grout is shiny clean.

Thursday Thirteen # 29:Diaper Facts

1. I have changed an estimated 164,123 diapers (and counting) in my lifetime.

2. I have changed an estimated 63,875 of my kids diapers. And yes, we are still counting.

3. While he is trying, Daniel is still not potty trained. We knew it would be a challenge with his developmental delays so it is all good.

4. I have often told myself (while in the midst of potty training) that no child starts kindergarten wearing diapers.

5. But back to those numbers.

6. I have changed an estimated 95,589 diapers while on the job.

7. Trust me, the number would only go down a little if I chose adult nursing. That is one of the reasons why I chose the NICU.

8. I have changed an estimated 4,659 of my siblings diapers.

9. Mom couldn’t/wouldn’t change most of her children’s diapers. She would gag, hack and hurl through the whole process to the point it was comical and pathetic at the same time.

10. Legend has it that even changed my brother, Randy’s diapers a few times. He was 17 months younger than me. I wouldn’t believe it were it not for the report of how Randy and I were found in the event that led to our placement in foster care. Someone changed that boy’s diapers. So I didn’t dispose of them properly, I was only three!

11. The three of my girls and I were featured on a diaper service ad once.

12. We received a free year of diaper service of diaper service in exchange. This came in handy because we had two in diapers at the time.

13. Yup. I am a cloth diapering mama. I use diaper pins too.
