when you’re sixteen

November 11, 2009 · Leave a Comment

…and you have people, you don’t need to blow out your own birthday pie candles. I mean, isn’t that what your people are for? I wouldn’t know for sure because when I was sixteen I had no people. Heck, I don’thave people for me now! But Abby…Abby has people.

another sixteen

November 9, 2009 · 2 Comments

Yup! We have survived yet another sixteenth year. Our third one to be exact. Of course we have two more sixteenth birthdays to get through but those will come in due time.

Today we celebrate the fact that Abigael Rose is sixteen years old today. I’m sure old friends and family who were surprised sixteen years ago when she decided to arrive four weeks early will be just as surprised that she is now sixteen years old, a junior in high school and driving…with a learner’s permit. Be warned, she will be driving solo come January.

Today it is all about Abby. The celebrations began around 6 this morning as her two closest friends came to “kidnap” her and take her out for a “surprise” breakfast. It may have been a surprise but she was up, made up and perfectly coiffed before they arrived. Maybe it wasn’t that much of a surprise after all. Tonight the celebration continues with the traditional birthday dinner, the showering of gifts and the non-traditional birthday pumpkin pie. Hopefully, her grandmother will remember this year and call her too.

Happy birthday Abigael Rose, our sweet and beautiful sixteen year old, not-so-forgotten middle child. I love you with all my hearts.

this day in history

July 20, 2009 · 4 Comments

July 20, 1969, little Billy Scarborough had the misfortune of getting his hand slammed in the car door by one of his birthday party guests while leaving Farrel’s, “the most awesome place ever to have a birthday party when you are six.” Needless to say it wasn’t a very happy birthday for him after that happened. Oh yeah, a couple of guys landed on the moon for the very first time that day too.

Today is my darling husband’s forty-sixth birthday and he is celebrating it any way he wants to which includes a bit of playing on the computer, a little bit of social networking on Facebook, a little bit of working out at the gym (he has lost 15 pounds since he accepted my anniversary gift of a gym membership!), a little bit of riding around on his motorcycle, some Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince with the family and some pizza and video games with the family…no hands being slammed in the car door planned and no men walking on the moon either.

Happy birthday, Bill! Love you!

Every sweet little girl needs a pretty, pink tu-tu for her first birthday party so that she can feel like a pretty, pretty princess…and every sweet baby girl with hard-core white trash roots needs to don JUST the pretty, pink tu-tu because that is how she rolls.

One day before her first birthday, Hazel celebrated her milestone surrounded by lots of friends and family today. She scored some great new toys, books and, of course, many more pretty, pretty outfits for a cute, little toddler girl. As of tomorrow she won’t be a baby anymore but a toddler. At this rate if she keeps on growing this crazy-fast I’ll be writing about her high school graduation in a couple of weeks. Slow down, little girl! let your Gma, mama and the rest of this circus act enjoy and savor this stage a little.

Just look at her and drink in her deliciousness. Those amazing, thick, long eyelashes! That strawberry-kissed blonde hair of hers! That delicious pink, chubby, long body of hers!  Her sweet, husky voice that is vocalizing a daily rapidly expanding vocabulary! She is the most delicious, delightful grand daughter ever…I challenge any and all grandmoms on that one. It’s hard to believe that exactly one year ago her mama was walking the floor and the neighborhood just trying to coax this girl out into the big, bad, bold world that she has without a doubt claimed as her own. But here we are, one year later and look at her!

Hazel is taking a quick break fueling up in anticipation of her big birthday bash today at “Grandma Dannie’s” house. “Grandma Dannie is actually 22 years old…22 going on 55 which would make her older than me!

Hey, if you aren’t doing anything today come join us at “Grandma Dannie’s” for the par=tay. There will be cake for Hazel to tear up, cake for us, a kiddie pool and a jumpy thing.  Doncha just love 1st birthday parties? I do. I’m looking forward to (and hoping to get some great cake-all-over-the-face pictures) Hazel tearing up and killing that birthday cake of hers.

Whoo-hoo! Par-Tay!

brace yourself, it’s happening again!

May 13, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Three years ago a phenomenom as freaky-weird as the planets aligning with the sun took place here under the Big Top and, as foretold before here on this blog, it is happening again.

OMG! We have THREE TEENAGERS living in this house!!!

That’s right people, my baby, my love, my heart, my joy…my youngest daughter, the fourth one, Jodie Grace Wynonna is THIRTEEN years old tomorrow.

The last time this happened, it only lasted a month here under the Big Top. We survived and, I hope, we are better people for it. This time this wonder of the drama-trauma of life with three teenagers living in the house will last until February 26, 2012. …hold me, please!

Happy, happy birthday to the newest teen-aged clown, Jodie Gracious.

I love you with all my hearts,

Mommy~Dearest

forty-seven

March 8, 2009 · 6 Comments

1. Today I am forty-seven years old.

2. Since it is my birthday and this is my blog, I think I will share with you forty-seven random thoughts.

3. You are so lucky!

4. March is a busy birthday month in my extended family. My sisters Valerie and Elana have birthdays this month. So does my Aunt Margie. My Dad’s ex-wife was born in March. My mother-in-law is a March baby too. So is my brother-in-law.

5. But today is MY day.

6. I just realized that my little sister, Valerie, is turning forty this year.

7. Wow! She’s old!

8. Knowing her I am pretty certain that she is feeling that way.

9. But it isn’t really that old.

10. Neither is forty-seven.

11. I read an article once where a man said that old is about twenty to thirty years older than you are right now.

12. The man was in his nineties if I recall correctly.

13. He’s right.

14. Sorry Dad, that means you are old.

15. It’s okay though because Daniel declared that I am “hecka old” after he realized that today isn’t my 23rd birthday but my 47th.

16. He then said that I look like I am 23.

17. Daniel is at that age where little boys are madly in love with their mommies.

18.  I’m sure that he will grow out of that soon enough.

19. Probably around the time that he decides that girls are really people and don’t have cooties.

20. Are you getting bored yet?

21. I might be saving the good stuff for the end of this list so hang in there.

22. As long as I can remember it is always a beautiful, sunny day on my birthday where I am living.

23. My earliest memories are around the age of two.

24. It’s always been a sunny day on my birthday.

25. Today is a sunny day…of course!

26. I get to do pretty much whatever I want to do today.

27. I am certain that I will not be doing Jillian Michaels Thirty Day Shred today.

28. I am also certain that calories do not count on my birthday.

29. At least they shouldn’t.

30. Bill and the kids are making me dinner tonight.

31. I didn’t go too crazy with the menu selection because I am trying to lose one pound a week here.

32. But I do intend to enjoy the wine Bill picked up at Friday’s wine tasting that we went to.

33. I’m also going to enjoy every single, blessed bite of my Red Velvet Cake Batter Ice Cream Cake from Coldstone Creamery.

34. Seriously, I am forty-freaking-seven years old today so calories do not count!

35. I posted a picture of me while working out to Jillian Michael’s 30 Day Shred to my Flickr.

36. It ended up being a picture of my ass.

37. It’s not like I haven’t posted a picture of my ass before on the internet.

38. Am I the only one out there who wants arms like Michelle Obama?

39. Well, I am working on getting them.

40. I understand that most of us had to turn our clocks one hour ahead for Daylight’s Savings early this morning but I refuse to entertain anyone’s bitching and moaning about it today because it is my birthday today.

41. But still we have to turn the clocks back that don’t automatically re-set here under the Big Top.

42. Holly was late for work this morning because we didn’t change them last night.

43. Of course she could have done it herself.

44. Or she could have gotten the day off, I mean, it is her mother’s birthday.

45. It seriously is like a holiday around  here.

46. As it should be,

47. Happy Birthday to me!
