Who says a cozy, happy home has to be dust-free? Yeah, sure, we would breathe a lot easier, I know. really, I do try but Erma Bombeck was right about housework in a house full of children. Honestly, I am not the greatest housekeeper in the world, although there are some people who think I am for some strange reason…it’s all smoke and mirrors, people. Seriously, I do like things to be neat and clean but I loathe doing housework which would be why I have either
(a) waited until I channel my mother and am overcome by a manic episode where I go off on a tear and clean and sanitize the house from top to bottom
or
(b) had so many children that I don’t need to hire a housekeeping staff because there are plenty of children and plenty of chores for all of them.
My kids, who read my blog, are nodding affirmation to both a and b right now. I’m putting this all out there because I don’t want to be judged too harshly for my lack of housekeeping skills by the picture below. Sometimes dust happens and sometimes I can’t keep up.

I throw a load of clothes into the washer tonight and I see on top of the washing machine this dusty, happy face. It’s so dusty and so happy.
Nice!
I could have (and should have) just grabbed a dust rag and dusted off the top of my washer and dryer but then I remembered that there is only one circus clown who would have and could have drawn Dusty, the happy face in the thick dust that has accumulated on my washer and she was the last one to do a load of clothes…I knew this because I emptied her freshly laundered clothes into the dryer. A good mom would have just dusted off her appliances…
Hey, Zoë, did you draw a happy face in the dust on the top of the washing machine?
I might have…she smiles coyly… why?
Well, if you have, then you get to be the lucky one to grab a dust rag and dust off the washer and dryer. But first, let me take a picture of Dusty, the happy face.
Our house, it’s clean enough to be healthy but dirty enough to be happy…thank goodness!

Clearly is nice living in your house. Even the dust is happy.
