Evil Chef Mom is hosting an amazing bloggy pot-luck tomorrow, May 10 and because I am not necessarily known for culinary greatness, I opted to bring the wine. Hey I like wine and I figure someone has to bring it.So here are my offerings to share at the table:
First we have a 2006 Saintsbury Chardonnay Unfiltered (Carneros). This wine is a medium straw, green color with superb aromas of creamy, core fruits. It is medium-bodied, layered on the palate, almost pillowy in textures with delicious ripe apple flavors and a definite creamy, clovey note and a smooth, lingering finish. Suggested food pairings are rotisserie chicken with a mix of country vegetables, grilled swordfish with a cream based sauce accented with a white wine reduction or shrimp scampi with ultra rich butter.
The second wine is a 2005 Sterling Vintner’s Collection Central Coast Merlot. This wine is medium ruby colored with aromas of earth and red cherries. It is medium-bodied with an easy, yet firm palate feel that is well balanced with flavors of ripe, red fruit and fresh, sweet earth and a medium finish and bright aftertaste. This wine pairs well with an egg omelette proscuitto and comté, smoked ham hocks with par-boiled cabbage or deep-fried squab with a savory sauce.
Or you can enjoy both of these wines with whatever the heck you think it tastes good with. That’s how I roll!
Along with the wine, I am bringing gifts to share. I have some books thanks to the Hatchette Book Group USA to offer to five people who visit Evil Chef Mom’s site and check out the potluck then leave a comment here telling me what was their favorite dish. If more than five comment then I will have one of my impartial clowns (who would never eat deep-fried squab) select the winners.

Oooo, I am so excited! My very first giveaway.
Be sure to stop by Evil Chef Mom’s place and if you are so inclined, bring your own dish to share.

Yup! That’s me.
Somehow my ass managed to de-magnetize our room key card. Next time I will NOT put the key card in my back pocket. Okay?
But Peggy Sue’s does make the best burgers ever!

To San José? I do and today I will be headed that way for another dance competition with my tiny dancer…the tiny dancer with straight A’s, er A pluses except for one…the tiny dancer who is not only a top honor student but a truant, top honor student. She is assigned to Saturday School for all the unexcused absences this Saturday during her dance competition so I guess she will have to remain truant. At least that is what the school has told me when I tried to reschedule her attending Saturday School. There is no more for this school year. Then why wait until this week to notify us of this issue? Shouldn’t the pencil pusher keeping track of attendance hunted us down to demand a reason for Jodie’s absences? You got to wonder sometimes about the inmates that run that asylum.
So why is she in this mess? Is she ditching school? No. It seems that her absences, due to illness (four) and orthodontic appointments (three) were never excused. I know, bad mommy! Actually all of those absences were during the four months that Daddy was laid off from work and while he was home “vacationing” I was counting on him to handle these things. You know, one less ball to juggle while working full time. I really should have nagged him about excuses for school because I know that I didn’t nag him nearly enough during that time.
Oh well. It is off to school today for my little delinquent and then off to San José to dance her little heart out while Mommy~Dearest gets to work at the competition. My job is to wear a “lovely” oversized red vest and to nag people to not bring food or drink, cameras or recording devices into the theater. Whoo-hoo!!!! What an exciting Mother’s Day weekend I’ll be having.
