Our local NBC affiliate doesn’t carry the third hour of the Today Show. I guess that they believe that some goofy-assed, smarmy Fox network produced talk show is better fare. Given the alternative of watching Kathie Lee Gifford, I am not sure which could be worse. Anyway, as a public service to everyone who lives in my neck of the woods and has read that Stockton Record article, who has asked me lots of questions about this thing called mommy-blogging, I give you this segment from the Today Show that aired today.
Note to Kathie Lee (who I guess won’t read this not because I am a third-rate mommy blogger but because she doesn’t know anything about these new-fangled things called computers): you haven’t changed a bit! You were a grating idiot who talked over your guests during your stint with Regis and you still are. Dear Kathie Lee, mommy-blogging is not a bad thing. It is not an evil thing. Perhaps if you had just shut your yap Heather might have been able to make you at least see her/my/our point of view. The kids and families of bloggers are as safe here in the land of mommy(and daddy) blogging as they are in the neighborhood schools, at the park with their families, at the mall with their moms or their friends and even in their own homes. What we do is no different than what you have done over the years as a talk show host. We share what is going on in our lives, our children’s lives, our neighborhood, in our bedrooms and even more personal or gross than that. Yes, we cross the line sometimes…just like you have done in your public life and career. But we live and learn…just like you have. This mommy-blogging may not be your thing and that’s okay…really, it is okay because frankly I don’t think I could stomach what you might have to say in a mommy blog. It takes all kinds to make a mom. That is definitely okay.
Note to Heather: You looked hot and that dress was amazing!

Well said and honestly wasn’t Kathy Gifford the original “mommy blogger”?
Hmm. And here I was, all set to correct you and say that her name is “Kelly Rippa”. LMAO! OMG I can’t believe that she is BACK on TV. WTF??? That’s what I get for watching nothing but Noggin all day long. I was so happy when Regis gave her the boot. Poor Dooce. KLG is so vapid and clueless. What I wish is for someone to start using the terms Blog, Journal and Diary interchangeably. Maybe KLG would “get it” if she knew what the hell a blog is and the benefits of writing one.
Kathie Lee is just jealous. What a bit*h!
LOL! Letherhaveit! hee hee
Yah, I wish they had shut up enough to let Dooce talk. How can they call that an interview? :eyeroll!:
I couldn’t agree with you more on this one, Laura. I just got done watching the clip (thanks for posting). She hasn’t changed one bit. Still the same Kathie Lee. She still manages to turn an interview all “about her”. Geesh. Enough Kathie Lee.
I don’t normally comment on blogs but I have to commend you for what you are doing. I also read http://www.dooce.com (and have read a few other blogs listed on your website), and I cannot stress how grateful I am to have found these types of websites.
I am only 23 years old and do not have any children of my own, but I do want them in the future. There are many things about being a mother that no one really thinks to ask about before becoming one (it’s like the time I found out from Scrubs [though, I had thought about it before] that you poop in front of the doctors while giving birth, or when I found out you have to birth the placenta, too) that the mommy bloggers talk about and show that there are ways of dealing with these things.
From your blog, I have read so many stories of premature births and while I am now rather frightened of the possibility having a preemie myself someday, I do feel better informed of some of the long term problems that can occur, but be overcomed as well.
Also, I wanted to let you know that while you may think your blog may be less profound or humorous than the more popular/well known blogs, I find your blog to be very poignant – in fact, I check it every day right along with Heather’s. Your blog is so down-to-earth and honest, I feel like you’re a neighbor (that might sound weird, but it’s true!).
You have such beautiful children! I love when you post pictures of Daniel – he has such a wonderful smile, and those dimples! – and of Holly’s growing belly (congrats, by the way!). It kinda makes me want kids all the more sooner.
Anyway, I feel like I’m rambling… but what you’re doing is helping so many people in ways you probably didn’t even know. Please don’t stop and keep up the awesome work!
