calling all name police

In my humble opinion, one of the biggest challenges and responsibility of being a parent is naming your precious bundle of joy. The name that is chosen follows this person the rest of their life and sometimes can define them. Don’t believe me? Think of how many Adolfs or Jezebelles that you know of. The Omen was just a work of fiction but when I hear the name Damien I still imagine the spawn of Satan. It’s funny how said named child often does appear to be rather devilish whenever I encounter a Damien too. Of course this belief of mine is why I believe in my heart of hearts there should be some sort of name police. Some folks just don’t see the big picture when they bestow a name on their child. Sometimes they just don’t think at all.
Case in point, a lovely. young couple engage in a conversation with the nurse of their beautiful, newborn daughter and it goes something like this:

Nurse: So have you chosen a name for this sweet baby girl?
Dad: Yeah. We want to call her “Ne-vaya”, you know, Heaven spelled backwards but we aren’t sure how Heaven is spelled.
Nurse: Oh

So should the nurse tell them how to spell Heaven? It’s time like these when a nurse should be able to bring in the name police to assist. I’m just saying, sometimes I wish I could just walk away rather than help a reasonably intelligent couple with the spelling of a second grade level word.
Maybe I’m just too crabby but I still don’t want to be a party to a naming crime.
